Good Evening Padres,
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween. It was great to see so many of our students dress up and tap into the little kid that is still inside of them, even for a bit.
The Week Behind
This past week was a nice opportunity to slow down a bit from the hectic Homecoming week of activities. Homecoming week is always so much fun on campus as students dress up and classes show their school spirit. I wanted to congratulate the class of 2023 on their win as they defeated the Seniors in a tightly contested week of competition. The Freshman class has been one of the most spirited and energetic groups I have encountered in quite a while and I hope they continue to show off their Padre Pride for the rest of the school year. Also a huge thank you to our ASB for putting on a great week culminating with a fantastic win by the football team and a wonderful dance on Saturday Night.
Last week we also rewarded our September Students of the Month. Students are selected by teachers who they feel exhibited one of our key attributes. This month we highlighted students who are helpful to others. Visit the school website to see the whole list of winners. Students received a certificate, a treat from Padre Parents and the coveted Carmel “C” sticker to show off around town!
The Week(s) Ahead
CHS will be hosting our Annual Art Expo on November 8th. This all day event allows our students to show off their art to local artists and get professional critiques on their work. We are also hosting students from other school in Monterey County as well as a professional luncheon to exchange ways the school can partner with the local community to enhance the value of art in the Carmel region. There will also be opportunities for students to seek out internships and network with people in the various artistic fields. Students in AP Studio Art 2D, 3D and Video Production 3 will be invited to attend.
We are beginning to prepare for our annual Breaking Down The Walls experience on November 13-15th. Breaking Down the Walls for High School students is a program designed to unify, empower, and engage every student to create a positive and supportive campus culture. The week kicks off with an exciting school-wide assembly on November 13th setting the tone; We are BETTER TOGETHER! All students will have the opportunity to hear a message that aims to remind students and staff how much they truly need one another. The presenter will train a pre-selected group of students on November 13th to lead small groups during a portion of the workshop experience. This 3-hour training will equip students with the vision of the program and prepare them to facilitate select activities during the workshop.
Our workshop days will be on November 14th and 15th. Each workshop day is 6 hours in length and includes up to 175 students and 25 student leaders. The workshop day guides students through the process of learning to laugh together (instead of at each other), creating a place of respect, and having the opportunity to hear other’s stories and share their own. There will be several debrief and follow up events throughout the remainder of the year to remind students that CHS is a supportive and caring place to learn.
