Tular Bobcat Brief
Posted by Lindsey Terry on 8/13/2021
Good Afternoon Bobcat Families,
I hope you had a great first week of school. It was so nice to see everyone back on campus with smiles on faces. I hope that the second week goes even better for all of you.
I know from personal experience this week (my family is at four different schools in the district), that there was a lot of communication going out and with the default settings for ParentSquare the amount of communication could be overwhelming. However, one of the great features of the ParentSquare communication system is that you can set up your account to receive communications in the most convenient way possible for you. Whether it is by text, email, or app notifications, you can decide how you want to receive communication (the default setting is to get them all of those ways) and even what times you would want to receive them each day. To learn how to adjust your settings visit the website: https://parentsquare.zendesk.
(Even if you prefer to get the communication through text or email, I would, personally, recommend still getting the app on your phone as this makes it easy to see and reference all of the messages in one place. You can just turn off the app notifications if you do not want to get the messages that way)

COVID
It is vital that we ensure the safety of our students and staff. If someone in your household tests positive for COVID, please immediately call the Tular office at 620-8195. Thank you for helping us stay safe.
No Coming onto Campus Before 8:25
We do not have supervision until 8:25 in the morning so students are not allowed onto campus until after the 8:25 bell rings. If you arrive before 8:25, please keep your child(ren) with you until after you hear the 8:25 bell. Please also remember that parents are not allowed in classrooms at this point. Thank you.
Dropping Students Off Late or Picking up Early
If you are dropping your student off late, please bring your child directly to the area outside the office and call us from there or wave to us. We will then check you in and let you know what to do. If you are picking your child up early, please call the office ahead of time so we know what time you are arriving and can have your child pulled out of class ready for you and then come to the area outside the office and wait for your child there.
Back to School Night
Back to School Night is Thursday, Aug 19, at 6:00 pm and will be done virtually over zoom. You will not be coming to campus. Teachers will be sending out their zoom link next week. This night is a great time to get to know your teacher, know how to stay on top of what is happening in the class, and know what is expected from students and parents. Please make sure to attend the event. We will also be recording the presentations and posting them online for parents who have multiple student and cannot make all of the presentations.
Picture Day
Picture Day will be Monday, Aug 23. More information will be coming next week.
Swimming for 3rd-5th Grade PE – New Date
Swimming for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will start Monday, Aug 23. Students will be swimming each day they have PE and will need to make sure they bring a swimsuit and towel on those days.
Let’s Make A Splash Sponsorship THANK YOU
Our swim program was in jeopardy last year when we lost grant funding from the Community Foundation. Our community rallied in support of our need and in an amazing feat - and lots of generous community leaders and Tularcitos families - we raised over $14,000 in just a few weeks. Please take time to thank our swim program sponsors and support their businesses.

From our PTO – Pool Party Time!
We hope everyone’s first week of school was amazing. Next Friday please join us for a Back To School Pool Party at the Carmel Valley Community Youth Center on Friday, August 20th, from 2 - 5pm. (It will start at 2:00 for kinder families and 3:00 for 1st-5th grade families. This is not a drop-off event. All students must be supervised by their parent or other adult.) We are fortunate to have such an amazing resource right next door. PTO will have a table set up with snacks and water, but also sign up forms and an opportunity to learn more about how you can help volunteer for our amazing school. Becoming a room parent, volunteering for our hospitality committee, Reading Week committee chair, are a few examples of how we can use your support. The saying, "It takes a village" has never been more prudent. Please join us to learn about our needs and have some fun. Parents ARE allowed to swim and particularly jump off the diving board.

Music Program Changes
We all know that the benefits of music in our lives is tremendous. Two years ago we were planning on making some exciting changes in our music program to improve the experience for students both in the music program and in the classroom. When COVID hit, those plans got put on hold. We are, again, excited to finally put those changes into place this year. Moving forward we have 1) expanded the time student have classroom music each week in 1st-5th grades, 2) in kinder – 4th grades we will be adding more instrumentation to our music program so students get to play more instruments as part of general music, and 3) all 5th graders will now be choosing an instrument to play and meeting in those instrument groups during the school day in place of having a general music class (they will still be able to have chorus as well). In making all of these changes, this means that 4th graders will no longer be choosing an instrument to play. While we will miss this opportunity for the 4th graders, we feel that, for all the students, the changes we have put in place will get students more excited about music, make them more proficient musicians, and encourage more of them to stick with it as they leave Tular. We are very fortunate to have the quality music program we do in CUSD, and we all feel that these changes will make the program even better. 5th grade families, more information will be coming directly to you about how instruments will work this year.
Symptomatic Students
In order to keep us all safe and healthy, please be aware that any student at school who shows any symptom of illness will be sent to the office immediately and evaluated by our school nurse. Our nurse will then call the parents to discuss the situation and necessary next steps. If it is determined the student needs to leave campus, the student will need to be picked up from school immediately and the necessary next steps be followed before the student will be allowed onto campus. Please make sure you have prearrange a way of having your child picked up if you know you would have a hard time getting to school during the day. Thank you for your help with this and keeping us all safe and healthy.
