Principal's Friday Email
Posted by Lindsey Terry on 5/7/2021
Good Afternoon Bobcat Families,
I hope everyone had a great week. Things at school keep going extremely well. Starting with this communication I will now be sending out all of my Friday emails via ParentSquare as well as our current communication system because, starting next year, we will only be using ParentSquare as our communication tool. Our district spent significant time this year researching and evaluating different communication systems and ParentSquare was, hands down, the best. So, for any families who have not yet downloaded the ParentSquare app because you are still on distance learning, please make sure to download it now. Here are the directions:
- Download the ParentSquare app for your phone from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- On a computer, just go to www.parentsquare.com/signin
to set up your account - For detailed instructions, check out this link to a quick step-by-step installation guide, which includes a video.
- For help with the ParentSquare app, you can submit a help request at
- https://carmelunified.
incidentiq.com/guest/NVJFER9S/ parent-ticket
Again, we need every family to download the app now to ensure you get all of the communications moving forward. Thank you.
I want to give a big thank you to all of you for a wonderful staff appreciation week. All of the gifts, treats, flowers, and decorations were so appreciated. Thank you, also, to our PTO and Jeromes Market for a wonderful lunch today. We all feel so appreciated. Thank you!

Message to Everyone Learning In-Person at School
With the changing guidelines, we are excited to let you know that we will soon be able to allow classes at the same grade level to play together at recess (students still need to stay masked and keep 3 ft of distance as they play). We could start this on Monday. However, because of our recent COVID positive case and that quarantine time ending on Tuesday, we are going to wait until Monday, May 17 to start this to ensure everyone’s safety.

COVID Response Process
I know we had a range of emotions in response to the communication that went out about our recent COVID positive case at Tular. I had a few people ask about how communication works when we have a COVID positive person on campus because they were concerned about how close they were to the case. Here is how the communication works. First, we interview the COVID positive person to find out which Tular students/families were in contact with for the 48 hours prior to their first symptoms. This goes for at and off school grounds. Those people who are considered a close contact all get a personal phone call from someone at Tular to inform them of the situation. Next, a communication goes out to any families in the cohorts where the COVID positive case occurred but may not be considered a close contact so they know more of the situation and can ask any questions they have. Finally, a communication goes out to the entire school community informing them of the COVID positive case.
I share that so everyone knows that if you are even remotely close to the COVID positive case, you will get a communication from us other than the communication that goes to the entire school community. Therefore, if you only see the communication to the Tular community, you can know that you were not exposed to the COVID positive case.
Please remember to wash your reusable masks regularly.
Students have done an amazing job of wearing their masks at school. However, we have noticed a number of masks coming to school that are dirty. Please make sure to wash your student’s masks regularly. Thank you.
Make a Splash for the Bobcat Swim Program
There have been a couple of changes to our Make a Splash Swim Program Fundraiser. (See my Wednesday email for more information about our swim program).
Unfortunately, we found out that we are not allowed to do 50-50 raffles as a PTO. So we are changing that to a straight donation. If you are wanting to donate directly to the swim program you can use the link https://www.paypal.com/
Now, all of the proceeds from the May 15 bbq will go straight to our swim program. The bbq will be Saturday, May 15th, from 4 - 6pm, at the Carmel Valley Community Youth Center. Not only is this a fun community event with the option to hang out together - socially distanced - but it’s a great way to raise money. We need volunteers to help set up, grill and pack food. It’s a ton of fun, and a great way for older children to get community service hours. Please sign up to volunteer with the following link:

We are still soliciting Sponsorships for our "Let’s Make a Splash” Campaign. This sponsorship campaign will continue all Summer and Fall semester. We're looking for community leaders and businesses to sponsor the swim program. The Tularcitos PTO is a non-profit organization. 100% of donations are tax deductible (Tax I.D. # 77-0010111). For more information, please contact Gina Nucci at gina.nucci@gmail.com.

Spirit Days Every Friday
It was fun to see students dressed in their pajamas or Bobcat spirit wear today. As a reminder, here are the rest of the spirit days this year.
- May 14: Crazy Hair/Hat Day – do something crazy with your hair or wear a crazy hat
- May 21: Stuffy Day – bring a, or your favorite, stuffy to school with you
- May 28: Positive Message Shirt day
- June 4 (last day of school) Bobcat Spirit wear Day: wear your Bobcat spirit wear, or dress in green and white
5th Grade Families
In looking at the most recent guidelines, we are excited to announce that we will be able to hold an in-person promotion ceremony this year with everyone all at once on our field. We will still do a virtual ceremony as well for those families who do not feel comfortable joining the in-person ceremony. The exact time and date are coming and this will be limited seating with guests required to register ahead of time in order to follow the guidelines. 5th grade parents, we will be communicating details out to you next week.
Parent Input form for Next Year’s Class Placement due Today
While we cannot 100% say what next year will look like, we are moving forward at this point planning for us to be fully open next year. At the end of each year, we work as a staff to establish classes that are balanced for next year. When making class placement decisions, we take into account a variety of factors to achieve the best balance possible. The following factors are considered:
- Each student’s academic status, special needs, interests, behavior, and motivation;
- Boy/girl ratio;
- Academic balance of high, medium and low achieving students;
- Styles of individual teachers;
- Class size balance among classes at each grade level.
Parents/Guardians who would like to give input about their child’s placement may write a request for a particular learning environment (e.g. learning style, personality attributes, classroom physical environment, educational needs, etc.) by completing the Electronic Class Placement Parent Input Form below. All forms must be submitted by today, May 7th. No late forms will be accepted. Additionally, since some teachers change grade levels year to year, please do not write a request for a specific teacher. If a form is turned in with a teacher's name as a particular request, it will be discarded and not considered.

You can Still get a Yearbook
Only 5 copies are left to purchase on the Yearbook website . Once the 5 copies are sold, we will close online sales and start a waiting list in case we have additional copies ( not guaranteed ). If you are unable to purchase a yearbook online, please complete the following form to be added to the waiting list which will be first come first served if we have extras. Yearbooks are $25 and are available for purchase online. Please go to www.jostens.com to order online.

Math Textbook Adoption
Next year our school district will be going through a process to adopt a new elementary math curriculum. We would appreciate you taking a few minutes to provide us your feedback on what you would like to see in a math program to help us in our decision. Below are links to the survey in Spanish and English. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
