Principal's Friday Email
Posted by Lindsey Terry on 4/2/2021
Good Afternoon Bobcat Families,
This evening at 5:00 pm class lists for the remainder of the year will be emailed out by grade level, the same as we did when we switched to hybrid.
Next week will be a mostly normal week for students. Teachers will be spending some time towards the end of the week bringing some closure to their current class and preparing students to transition to what school will be like starting April 19. Because of different tech needs and plans, each grade level will be transitioning students to their new Google Classrooms (which every student will need, even those returning to In-Person) in slightly different ways next week. Please make sure to pay attention to the teachers’ communications so you know how to assist your student with any Google Classroom changes they may need to make.

For Everyone Returning In-Person Message
For those of you returning to campus on April 19 we will be sending out a welcome packet early next week with important information. Please make sure to read that thoroughly, especially the information about drop-off and pick-up.
Message to Those Staying in Distance Learning
I know that a lot of time, energy, effort, and communication is going into the students returning to campus right now. I want to make sure you know that we are excited to be able to continue to offer the Distance Learning option to our families. We are committed and want you to know that we are still all one school no matter where you are doing your learning from, and we will make sure that your learning experience to end this year is a great one.
Information for Everyone
You can Still get a Yearbook
There is still time to order the yearbook for this crazy COVID year. You will definitely want it as a memory. From now until May 14th, yearbooks are $25 and are available for purchase online. Please go to www.jostens.com.
For 5th grade parents only:
It would be great if each 5th grader was represented in the memory pages of the yearbook. Treat your child to lasting memories in the yearbook with Memory Pages (a.k.a Yearbook Recognition Ads). Although the deadline
Presentation for Students Returning to Campus
For students coming to campus after Spring Break Nurse Milla, Mr. Peterson, and Ms. Amy will be zooming with them next week to help prepare them for their return to campus. We will be covering ways we will help keep each other safe and healthy (i.e. masks, 3 ft apart, signs on campus to guide them, handwashing etc..), and will share how these things might change the way they play, eat lunch, and learn and find out what they are excited about and what they are wondering about. 1st & 2nd grade will be Wednesday April 7th 10:40 - 11:20, and 3rd, 4th, & 5th will be Thursday April 8th 10:40 - 11:20. During this time, those students who are going to continue with Distance Learning will meet with their Distance Learning teachers and classmates in another zoom.
Reading Week and No (Extra) Screens Week Thank You
I hope that everyone enjoyed Reading Week and No (extra) Screens week. I want to thank Gina and Shelly for organizing it all, and our readers for the week: Tommy Knowles, Barbara Greenway, Matt Week, Mrs. Stasio, Eddy Hamlin, Ms. Amy, Ms. Christine, Mr. A, Mr Short (thanks for coming back), and the Sheriff Deputy. Additionally, I want to thank all the Tular staff who videoed themselves reading a story for everyone. Those videos will stay up on the Reading Week website for another couple weeks so everyone can enjoy them. What a great week of celebrating reading. I also want to congratulate all of you who completed the No (extra) Screens challenge. Please send me a picture of whatever you did to reward yourself for meeting the challenge. I really enjoyed seeing them last time and would love to see what you did this time.
Come join the FOCUS Board!
FOCUS supports quality education within the Carmel Unified School District and since its founding has provided over $3,000,000 in grants that support academic and social-emotional student success. Several FOCUS Board members have students leaving CUSD at the end of this academic year and we need parents to join our Board. As we move into the final months of the school year, all Executive Board positions are now open to interested candidates for the 2021-2022 year. You can learn more about FOCUS, our meeting schedule, and grants we have funded by visiting our website: https://www.
Character Assembly
With all that has gone on, we are extending the deadline for students to submit their character pillar example videos to April 8. If you would like your child to participate please submit a short 5 -10 second video (no longer) of your child demonstrating their grade level’s character pillar.
Grade Level Character Pillars
Kindergarteners will be demonstrating Fairness & Forgiveness
1st graders will be demonstrating Trustworthiness & Integrity
2nd graders will be demonstrating Caring & Kindness
3rd graders will be demonstrating Responsibility & Self Control
4th graders will be demonstrating Respect & Integrity
5th graders will be demonstrating Citizenship & Generosity
Please use this form to submit your child's video.
When submitting your video think about the following....
1. Aspect Ratio: If you are filming with your phone, film it horizontally (landscape).
2. Lighting: Usually the more light the better. Avoid light from behind the student
3. Audio: make sure we can hear the audio of the video and it is free of background noises
4. Resolution: Use the highest resolution. We want to see your student!
5. Formats: Use .mov or .mp4 Videos are limited to 1 GB & should be no more that 5 to 10 seconds in length.
If you have questions please contact Amy Bullas at abullas@carmelunified.org
