Principal's Friday Email
Posted by Lindsey Terry on 3/26/2021
Good Afternoon Bobcat Families,
I would think I would just get used to the constant changes, but what a difference a week makes. We are excited to finally be able to bring more students back onto campus April 19. Overall, 80% of our students are returning, and 20% are staying in distance learning. So school will feel much more like school now. These next two weeks we will be extremely busy putting together all of our schedules and figuring out all of the little details (for the third time this year) so that we can have everything ready by the time we get back from spring break. Starting with my next Friday email there will be significant communications coming home again so everyone knows what to do when we start our new schedule on April 19. I know from firsthand experience (my own three children are in three different schools) that the amount of communication parents are about to receive can be overwhelming. However, please make sure to read all of it. I know every CUSD principal is trying to make their communication as precise and informative as possible. While we will be back in school, we are still in a pandemic and therefore school is not like normal.
It is also important to know that as we get closer to opening school and as we make the changes we need to, students may go through a range of emotions again – excitement, nervousness, sadness. Please take time this weekend to talk to your child about the upcoming change and whether you chose in-person school or distance learning. When we made the change to hybrid a few weeks ago, we found that the teachers were the ones telling students for the first time. It would be better if it came from you as the parents. Please also let your child know that, with all of this change, teachers may change. Here is a great article I shared a few weeks ago when we were transitioning to hybrid about how to help children process their emotions at this time. I highly recommend reading it.
Please also be aware that almost all of the Tular staff is getting their second COVID vaccine shot over the next two weeks. As most of us have heard, a significant number of people are getting sick with their second shot. We have already seen this with some of our teachers and we want to make sure you are aware because when that happens we will have to be assigning more asynchronous work on the days teachers are sick.
Again, this is a very exciting time, and there is a lot to do to get ready. Please pay close attention to the communications you will receive over the next two weeks as we may have a few days of a different schedule just like we had to do when we transitioned to hybrid.
One thing everyone can do right now to start to get ready is to sign up for and install the ParentSquare app. Every family coming back on campus will need to set this up. Here are directions on how to do that.
- Download the ParentSquare app for your phone from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- On a computer, just go to parentsquare.com/signin to set up your account
- For detailed instructions, check out this link to a quick step-by-step installation guide, which includes a video.
- For help with the ParentSquare app, you can submit a help request at

We need everyone to start using the ParentSquare app in the morning. If you have not downloaded the app yet, please follow the directions above.
We have also found it extremely helpful when parents have hung the signs we handed out from their rear-view mirror. Please do that if you have not already.
Distance Learning Family Message
Please remember to pick up your materials on Fridays in Bobcat Hall between 7:30 am -7:00 pm. Your teacher will communicate to you which Fridays you should pick up materials.
Information for Everyone
Reading Week and No (Extra) Screens Week 3/29-4/2
Reading Week and No (extra) Screens Week is coming 3/29-4/2. For Reading Week we will have videos posted each day of staff reading books so you can have a virtual storytime each night from your previous teachers. We will also have live stories being read every night starting at 6:30 pm. Attached is a schedule for next week. There is also a link to everything about Reading Week on our website
This week will also be No (extra) Screens Week. This will work similarly to the one we held in the fall:
From Monday, 3/29, to Friday, 4/2 families at home are encouraged to turn off any screens when not doing school work - Turn off the TV, computer (except for school work), ipads, tablets (except for reading), computer games, smartphones (except for phone calls), or anything else with a screen. In place of the screens families should read, play games, play outside, etc. together. Attached is a flier with more information about No (extra) Screens. We hope that you find this time away from the extra screens has a positive impact on your family.
Come join the FOCUS Board!
FOCUS supports quality education within the Carmel Unified School District and since its founding has provided over $3,000,000 in grants that support academic and social-emotional student success. Several FOCUS Board members have students leaving CUSD at the end of this academic year and we need parents to join our Board. As we move into the final months of the school year, all Executive Board positions are now open to interested candidates for the 2021-2022 year. You can learn more about FOCUS, our meeting schedule, and grants we have funded by visiting our website: https://www.
Kindergarten, TK, and New Student Registration Packets for Next Year are Available
If you have a child that will be attending Kindergarten or will be new to Tular next year please go to the Registration Tab/Box on our website to complete residency ASAP. If you have any friends or neighbors with children that will be attending Tular next year please spread the word and send them to our website. If you have a TK student, contact Carmelo at 624-8047. On-line registration for returning students will be sent out via email sometime in the future. If you have any questions please call the school office.
Character Assembly
We are planning for a live school wide character assembly at the end of April and to help us prepare we are asking families to film their students demonstrating their grade level character pillar at home. Video production students from CHS will be helping us compile and edit these to share as a part of this assembly. If you would like your child to participate please submit a short 5 -10 second video (no longer) of your child demonstrating their grade level’s character pillar by March 29th to be included.
Grade Level Character Pillars
Kindergarteners will be demonstrating Fairness & Forgiveness
1st graders will be demonstrating Trustworthiness & Integrity
2nd graders will be demonstrating Caring & Kindness
3rd graders will be demonstrating Responsibility & Self Control
4th graders will be demonstrating Respect & Integrity
5th graders will be demonstrating Citizenship & Generosity
Please use this form to submit your child's video.
When submitting your video think about the following....
1. Aspect Ratio: If you are filming with your phone, film it horizontally (landscape).
2. Lighting: Usually the more light the better. Avoid light from behind the student
3. Audio: make sure we can hear the audio of the video and it is free of background noises
4. Resolution: Use the highest resolution. We want to see your student!
5. Formats: Use .mov or .mp4 Videos are limited to 1 GB & should be no more that 5 to 10 seconds in length.
If you have questions please contact Amy Bullas at abullas@carmelunified.org
Message from our PTO
Our next PTO meeting will be Wed, April 7, at 6:30 pm. At that meeting we will be discussing what we can do for a celebratory Spring Fling in May, how we can end the year well, and discussing board positions for next year. If you are able to help, please contact Gina Nucci at gina.nucci@gmail.com.
