Smile to raise funds for our PTO

Did you know you can earn money for our PTO when you shop on Amazon by just remembering to smile?  You can earn free money for the Tularcitos’ PTO whenever you shop on Amazon by going to smile.amazon.com and choose to support “Tularcitos Parent Teacher Organization”.  All pricing is the same. The only difference is that Amazon will donate .5% of your purchase to the PTO if you checkout at smile.amazon.com   So remember to use smile.amazon.com whenever you shop on Amazon.  To make it easy on yourself, just bookmark the smile.amazon.com site so you remember to use it.

Reading Week/No Screens Week Thank You

Thank you to Katie Reneker, many of our PTO board members, and all of the other parents who made Reading week and night happen.  Thank you also to our readers: Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Reimer, Mr. A, Mr. G, Ms. Amy, Monterey County Sheriff, Anthony Herro, Richard Lookinghawk, Steve Mosesley, and Tess Arthur.  It was such a fun community evening. I hope that the week of reading and turning off the screens at home helped your family. Students who participated in No Screens week will have their ice cream party on March 19 at lunch.

Next Tular Dads Meeting

The next meeting for our Tular Dads group will be Wednesday, Mar 6, at 5:30 at the CV Winehouse.  The movie night we hosted was a great success. Now we’ll begin talking about the campout at Tular this spring.  Come at 5:30 to help plan, or whenever you can to plan or come just socialize. We’ll be there until 7:30.

Tech At Home

When thinking about tech use at home, we need to be very strategic.  Attached is a longer explanation of these recommendations (which I think are worth the read), but here are some ideas for you to consider as you determine how to manage tech use at home.  Commonsensemedia.org is a great resource to use as well.

    • Put a filter and parental controls on all your devices
    • Set a screen time limit
    • No Device Dinner
    • No screens in the car
    • No screens in the bedroom
    • No phones in the room at night
    • Get a Family Cell Phone Basket

  • Wait on Social Media

  • Sign a family tech use agreement
  • Wait Until 8th (or make their cell phone only a phone)

Message from our PTO

Our next meeting will be Wed, Mar 6, at 8:45 in Bobcat Hall.  We’ll be finalizing plans for the Spring Fling and other end of year events and need help.

The Tularcitos Student Council is kicking off their Pennies for Patients fundraising campaign to help raise money to support research for pediatric leukemia and lymphoma.  Our goal is to earn $1,500 by March 22nd.  Please consider sending in your spare change with your children to place in their class's donation box.  In addition, online donations through our classroom donation page can be made by following this link:  https://events.lls.org/pages/svmb/Tularcitos-Elementary-School-2019.  Thank you so much for helping raise money for such a worthy cause.
