SS/History Materials Adoption – In 2018 the California State Board of Education adopted new materials
for use in K-8 Social Studies/History. Subsequently, each district engaged in a review process to select
the best materials for their specific district. The CUSD K-5 Social Studies/History Adoption Committee
has completed their review of materials and is excited to recommend the following for adoption: Social
Studies Weekly (K-3rd grades) and TCI: Social Studies Alive! (4th & 5th grades). Copies of student materials
are available for review in the front office at each elementary school and at the District Curriculum &
Instruction Office through March 1st. The Board will consider the adoption of the new materials at the
March 13, 2019 Board meeting. The newly adopted materials will then be implemented districtwide in
the 2019-2020 school year.

Don’t Miss This

  • Tonight, Fri, Jan 25 @ 6:00: Movie Night in Bobcat Hall – Small Foot

Parent Volunteers Needed for Help with Recess Supervision.

Unfortunately, a number of our instructional aides have been having to take significant time off for various issues lately.  While we have been working hard to try to fill their positions, we are not always able to do this because we do not have many people who can sub for instructional aides.  While we can make adjustments in the classroom, one area that has been difficult to fill has been their recess duty. So we are looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to come to school from 10:30-10:45 or 12:30-1:15 on a regular basis through the month of February to help with recess supervision.  If you could do that, even if only one time a week, or be willing to be on call, please call Kim in the office. Thank you!

Winter Music Concert Sadly Cancelled

As you may know, Mr. Short was finally able to have his long-awaited knee surgery at the end of our winter break.  Unfortunately, the recovery is taking longer than we had hoped. Because of that, the students who play instruments have not had good instruction since December.  We are hopeful that Mr. Short may be able to return next week sometime, but even if he can, we would not be able to get the students ready for the Winter concert in time.  Additionally, our instrumental students need to begin practicing for the upcoming district music festivals soon. Therefore, we are sadly going to have to cancel our winter concert scheduled for Jan 31.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the district music festivals. Chorus will perform March 7, Band will perform March 26, and Strings will perform April 4. More details will come out as we get closer to the dates.

Spelling Bee Stills Needs Help!

It is spelling bee time for 4th and 5th graders.  We still need help correcting papers for our spelling bee during the following times:

  • Wednesday Jan 30th at 8:40-10:00, need 4-6 Volunteers to correct 40 tests
  • Wednesday February 6th at 8:50-10:00 need 3 volunteers to help with oral spelling bee (Your child can't be in the finals)

Please contact Kimberly in the office if you can help!  Thanks Tular Parents!

PJ Movie Night Tonight, January 25 @ 6:00

Put on your pajamas and bring your blankets to our first Pajama Movie Night for Tular families in Bobcat Hall on Friday, January 25. We’ll be watching Small Foot.  The whole family is welcome, or dads can come with the kids and give moms some time to themselves. This is not a drop-off event. Parents need to stay. Put it on your calendars now.  Light concessions will be on sale to help raise money for our PTO.

Message from our PTO

Our next meeting will be Thursday, Feb 7, at 8:45 in Bobcat Hall.  We are having to hold this meeting on Thursday because the finals of our Spelling Bee will be Wednesday morning.  At our February PTO meeting Colin Matheson, district tech coach, will be presenting the district’s plan to teach our students about digital citizenship as well as ask for parent feedback on how the district can support parents at home with tech use.  This will be a great time to provide the district with feedback about the role of technology at school.
