Carmel Unified Schools honored as 2019 California Distinguished Schools
Carmel Middle School, Carmel High School, and Carmel Unified School District as a whole have been honored by the California Department of Education under the 2019 Distinguished Schools Program. The program recognizes outstanding education programs and practices, especially spotlighting those who have achieved exceptional student performance for two consecutive school years or who have closed the achievement gap between two school years.
Carmel High School and Carmel MIddle School were both named "California Distinguished Schools" and are among only 162 schools in the state to receive the award. The Carmel Unified School District was one of only 18 districts that were named "Exemplary Districts."
Superintendent Barb Dill-Varga had this to say about the news
This is cause for a celebration! Receiving these awards is a validation of our dedication to excellence and our continuous improvement efforts. Achieving such honors requires teamwork from our students, faculty, staff, parents, administrators, and school board. A strong commitment to achievement and developing well-rounded students runs throughout the district.
We are proud of our achievement and our continuing efforts to expand our vision to be learning communities that not only promote life-long learning, but provide opportunities that are life-wide and life-deep as well. We want students to develop meaningful connections in and out of school and to find their passions in life, and these awards are exciting signposts of our journey!
