Sight Words

Sight words can be tricky. Words like "said" and "because" don't necessarily follow the simple rules that the decoding skills reference page provides, and students need to memorize them to become better readers. Your child has already picked up a few of these, such as "can", "we", "I" and "like", in kindergarten. In first grade, the list of sight words that students should memorize grows to 100.

But it doesn't end there! There are plenty more sight words in the world to memorize. Here are the first grade top 100 sight words and yet more word lists, listed by number in order of difficulty.  Once your child masters the top 100 sight words, they might want to accept the challenge of learning the next 100 words, and so on...

Happy memorizing! ;)
