Happy Friday CMS Families!

Highlight of the Week: CMS Open House: Thank you so much for the wonderful turnout on Thursday night for our annual Open House event.  We hope you had an enjoyable experience and were impressed with the variety of programs and outstanding student work on display.  Our teachers have asked me to express their gratitude for the compliments and appreciations that were universally shared with them last night and we all feel grateful to be working with such supportive families and wonderful students!

Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher appreciation week took place this week at CMS and our Leadership Class, Leadership Teacher (Liz Wells), and parent volunteer Stacey Profeta all went above and beyond to make sure our teachers felt appreciated.  Each day featured a different theme and something nice for members of our staff and faculty including door wraps, Hollywood Stars, a new CMS Water Bottle, and fantastic treats.  The week ended with a PTO sponsored catered lunch from Sarda’s Fusion Catering arranged by our wonderful parent volunteer Alicia Tao.  The food was delicious and much appreciated by everyone at CMS!  Thank you all for going the extra mile and making our teachers feel loved!

Winding Down: By the time you read this we will be down to the final 19 days of school!  Next week our big event is our final concert of the year, the CMS Spring Concert.  The concert will take place Tuesday, May 14, from 7-8:30 in the CMS gym and will feature each of the musical groups we support. This is your last chance to come out and see the spectacular musical talents of our middle school musicians on display!

Music in the Parks next Saturday: Following the concert on Tuesday, our musicians head off to their annual end of year competition, Music in the Parks, where they’ll compete against a number of other schools for a variety of awards and accolades while being judged by a panel of professional musicians.  Our program usually performs exceptionally well in this competition and often come home having swept the awards.  Good luck this Saturday!

Stay Focused! Finally, as we wrap up the year, please remind your student to maintain their positive focus on both grades and behavior.  Sometimes as the year comes to a close, students engage in some strange behaviors, checking out academically, and acting in a manner that is significantly different than what we’ve seen for the first few months.  Reminders from parents to stay the course, stay focused, and finish the year on a positive note are powerful messages that help keep our school environment positive for everyone over the last 19 days.  Thank you for your ongoing support in this area!

That’s it for this week.  Thanks again for all you do!

CMS 8th Grade Panoramic Picture will take place on May 17, 2019. Order forms are available for students to pick up in the front office. If you wish to order your students online, please visit:   Picture Day ID:  BY248234T0

Lunch Accounts and Charging: As of Monday, May 13, our cafeteria will no longer allow students to charge for lunches on their accounts.  In addition, it is important that outstanding balances be paid off prior to the end of the school year.  Keep in mind that any money left on your student’s account will transfer over to next year even if they are moving from middle to high school.  Thank you!

A Few Spots Left on the East Coast Trip: Last chance to sign up for the 2019 8th grade trip! We have an extension until May 22nd. Please see the attached letter from World Strides that explains all the details of the trip.

Your children will travel to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. on a history tour with their classmates. This is a fantastic trip that your child will never forget.

Does your child have a loaner Chromebook checked out? The library currently had over 100 loaners checked out!
