Good morning CMS Families and Happy Weekend!

After two weeks of testing we made it over the mountain that is CAASPP!  I’d like to thank everyone for their efforts in getting kids to school, keeping them well rested, and encouraging them to give their best effort on each section of the test.  We’re looking forward to seeing the results sometime late this summer.

If your student missed any portion of the test due to absence, makeup testing has been scheduled for next week.  Students who did not complete a section or missed a section entirely will be pulled into the library to finish things up.

Outside of testing it’s been another quiet week at CMS but, this will be the last time I get to say that.  As of Monday, we’re down to the final 24 days of school.  Between now and the end of the year we have all kinds of fun going on.  Keep reading for more info!

This Week

National Teacher Appreciation Week; May 6-10

National Teacher Appreciation Day; Tuesday, May 7

Sunday, May 5th: The 1st Annual CMS Student Film Festival will be held in the Carmel High (not Middle) Theater this Sunday, May 5th at 6PM. Seven student films will be shown, followed by a presentation of awards. The student teams were each assigned a random genre (Western, Suspense, Sci-Fi, Silent, or Disaster), and each team had to include three required elements: a bottle as a prop, a character named "Morgan Ricketts" and the line of dialog, "This changes everything!" Everyone is invited to attend, and admission is free. You will not be disappointed.

May 9th: CMS Open House: On Thursday, CMS will host our annual Open House.  Rooms will be open from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and we encourage you to come with your student (or at least their schedule), take a self-guided tour, and see all the amazing things they’ve been involved in this year.  During the evening we also offer a look at several elective programs including music performances in the music wing, an art show in the library, a craft show and sale in our Industrial Arts room, improvisational comedy in our theater, and mousetrap car races, highlighting our 8th grade science program in our gym.  This showcase event is open to everyone!

In addition, at 5:45, we will be hosting our incoming 5th grade parents (and some students) in the gym for a brief informational session.  We’ve invited all incoming families to come see the campus and our programs to help generate some excitement for the transition from elementary student to CMS.  Please let your 5th grade friends know that they should come!

Finally, we need to let everyone know that our plan to host food trucks for the evening hit a snag with the Health Department and we will no longer be able to offer food options on campus for families.  As there will be no food on site, please plan to eat before, or after, attending the event.

May 10th: Minimum Day – Staff Development Day: Students are released for the day at 12:00 and all students should be picked up by 12:30 as we do not provide supervision for students on minimum days.  A limited lunch is served from 12:00 to 12:15 and busses leave CMS at 12:15.

Next Week

May 14: Spring Concert – On Tuesday we’ll be hosting our Spring Concert, your final opportunity to see all the music groups CMS supports in one venue.  This showcase event is always phenomenal and we encourage everyone who loves live music to come out and enjoy this concert from 7:00 – 8:30.

May 17: CMS 8th Grade Panoramic Class Picture. Order forms are available for students to pick up in the front office. If you wish to order your students online, please visit:   Picture Day ID:  BY248234T0

Please see the calendar for more upcoming events.

CMS Robotics Summer Camp: The Carmel High School Robotics Team is sponsoring a summer Robotics and Tech Camp in the Carmel High School Robotics Lab.  Engineering teachers Tom Cliffor and Mike Brewer will be leading the camp with CHS Robotics Team members mentoring and teaching students.  No prior knowledge is necessary.  The camp will run from Tuesday, July 30th through Friday, August 2nd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and lunch is provided each day.  Next year, the CHS Robotics Team will be sponsoring a Middle School Robotics Team with the goal of growing a strong robotics program over the next few years.  This is a great way to get involved!  The cost for the camp is $300.  Scholarships are available.  To sign up for the camp visit: or contact Tom Clifford, CHS Teacher at tclifford@carmelunifiedorg or 831.624.1821 x3706.  To learn more about the program visit the CHS Robotics Team Website at .

Does your child have a loaner Chromebook checked out? The library currently had over 100 loaners checked out! You can always check your student's current library record if you are logged into Chrome with your child's username and password. From the MySchool Home page, click on Classlink,  and sign in your with a CUSD  username and password. On the Classlink main page, click on the "Library & Research" folder, then click on Follett Destiny. In Destiny, select the "My Info" tab. If you see an Acer Chromebook, it is most likely a loaner. Please ask your student to return it to the library on Monday. The library has been running out of loaner Chromebooks on the days with long testing period.  If you have any questions, please email our Teacher Librarian, Susan Thompson (
