PTO Meeting Minutes DRAFT Thursday, October 4, 2018 @ 6:00 pm

Meeting Called to Order at 6:10pm.

  2. II  Principal’s Report - Ryan Peterson

Thank you for everyone’s help on the Fall Festival. Parent Teacher conferences coming up next. We have a Garden Teacher opening and while we fill the position we have parent volunteers helping after school with maintenance.

Continuing with the technology awareness we started with No Screens Week. Be strategic with technology. Do no give in to the norm. Be thoughtful with access to technology. Halloween parade coming up and starting at 1:15pm.

Teacher Grants – XXXXXXXXX – motion Lesley Varney; Second by Jillayne Ange. Discussion. All in favor. Motion passed.

III Treasurers Report- Lauren Collins

Will review with Fall Festival Summary.

IV Approval of Minutes - Gina Nucci-Hincks

Lisa Belle Marsh, motion to approve; seconded by Catherine Griggs, No discussion. All in favor. Minutes approved.

V Teacher Update/Ms. Elizabeth Golden

Huge thank you from Teachers to PTO for all of our hard work raising money for supplies, food and field trips.
Airport Acquisition – Ms. Golden also updated the group on the airport acquisition and fundraising efforts. Passed a sign up sheet for volunteers to

join their grass root efforts.

VI We Are Carmel Unified- Jennifer Metcalf

Gave an update from the district level for emergency drills. District has a ‘red book’ with step by step drills for different scenarios. Currently working on site assessments. Project 2020 includes technology, infrastructure and surveillance.

Mr. Peterson added that Tularcitos will have a simulation emergency drill on October 18. We will need parent volunteers to help with pick up following an emergency. The district also got funding for a “SRO” – School Resource Officer – Sherriff deputy – on campus. Surveillance is the second step for the pilot in 2018-2019.

VII Committee Updates

a Fall Festival Recap- Heaven Tempalski/Lauren Collins

Huge success. Thank you volunteers! Net Income $12,122
Gross Income $18,859; Expenses $6737 with the majority of our expenses coming from bounce house rentals ($5175). Spirit wear sales $1460. Feedback for more seating. Discussion of moving to a Saturday. Also discussed a new and improved volunteer station for parents to check in for working class booths since some parents missed positions.

Set for December 15th for a 3K & 5K

c Teacher Conference Week- Sarah Smith, Wendy Kitchell November 14th

d Talent Show- Ryan Peterson February 8 for 3rd – 5th graders.

e PTO Committee Positions-Heaven listed open positions for different committees.

COMMITTEE POSITIONS
• Volunteer Coordinator-Keep track of 2-hour Pledges, work with room

parents and event chairs
• Grant Writer- Find and submit grants for school (can be done from home) • Community Liaison- create community events (pool party, parents’ night

out, movie night, restaurant night, etc.)
• Spring Fling Committee- Now assembling- Contact Heaven Tempalski • 2019 Fall festival Chair/Co-Chair

VIII New Business

Reading Week volunteer – Katie Renker – looking for additional help for reading week. Last year at Tularcitos, so needs to look for someone to take over the celebration of reading (February 16-March1). Same week as No Screens Week.

Carmel Valley Community Center looking for volunteers for Santa Fly In on December 8th. Email office@cvcyc.org if you’re interested.
