PTO Meeting Minutes

February 3rd, 2016

Meeting called to order at 8:45 by Ola Rocha.

Welcome and introduction by all attendees

Principals Report-

We are going to have a writing day, based on individual grade levels. We will be looking at how the students writing is improving and where we have opportunity to grow.   Our student are 98% proficient. We will also be evaluating writing instruction and looking at how we can continue to grow.

We just had the winter concert just had and maxed our bobcat hall. We are continuing to grow and will need to start brainstorming for solutions.

We need help with the spelling bee, correcting spelling tests today at 11:15.

Treasurer’s Report- Cindy Schroeder

As you can see from the report we got a small amount of money in from eScrip, Fro n Jo, Bucks for Bobcats, and Boxtops. Some expenses included the swim program and bus transportation. We are positive this month which is fantastic. If you have any questions feel free to contact Cindy Schroeder at cynschroed@aol.com

Approval of Minutes

Emily Frew made a motion to approve the minutes and Kristi Blakely provided a second.

LCAP – Mike Hefner

The LCAP is designed to provide school districts and their communities with more local control of school funding and make it easier to respond to the needs of their students. At the same, the LCAP makes school districts more accountable to provide the necessary programs and resources to create a level playing field for all students. Carmel Unified gets very little money from this plan compared to other schools.

We are looking at how we use this plan to set us forward , The district would like to hear from parents to   tell them what you think is working or what more we can do.

  • How do we set goals, - district, site goals, how do we bring it all together. As educators we only have pieces of the puzzle. How can we do more?

  • Smarter balance assessment. -3-11th grades. Our performance is outstanding compared to the state in Language Arts, Math, and sub groups.

  • Compared to 15 specific districts like ourselves– we are allocating more funds per student and our class sizes are smaller. But we are not #1 on the list in performance.

  • Healthy Kids Survey results show our district has lower incidents of self-reported binge drinking and bullying than the state average but slightly higher incidents of marijuana usage.

  • We will be doing a 360 survey (student, parent, and teacher) with a similar set of questions. There will be 3 community forums – Big Sur on Feb 25th, River on March 10th, and Tularcitos on March 24th around 6:30-8:00.
