Meeting Minutes

March 4, 2015


President Robyn Rauh called meeting to order at 8:50am and everyone introduced themselves. Monthly PTO meetings will be held the first Wednesday of every month at 8:40am in Bobcat Hall.

Principal’s Report-Principal Ryan Peterson announced there are approximately 518 students at the school. Principal Peterson attended the Choir Festival last night at the Sunset Center. Everyone did great job! Superintendent Marvin Biasotti received an award from California Music Teachers Association.

The new Smarter Balanced Assessment tests are coming soon. This year 3rd-5th Graders will take the test. The test includes essay and short answer. There will be a practice session for students in April. Practice tests can be found on their website www.smarterbalanced.org.

In regards to the sign across Ford Road for the school to lease the lot, the owner who owns the lot would like to lease the lot to the school. However, the price at this time is too high. The district will have more information in the future.

Treasurer’s Report- This month Escrip brought in $1,591 and Yearbook brought in $3,150. Expenses this month included $120 for field trips and $134 for refreshments at the talent show.

Minutes Approval-Emily Frew made a motion to approve minutes from February 2015 Meeting. Unanimous vote was made to approve minutes.

Yearbook-This year’s Coordinators are Pia Garneau and Linnea Terrranova. 60% of yearbooks have been sold. The final deadline to submit pictures is March 9th. Sponsors are needed for the yearbook! Sponsors can be a person or a business! This is great advertising for any business! Thank you Pia and Linnea for all your hard work!

Talent Show-Our 2nd Annual Talent Show was February 6, Friday at 6pm. It was huge turnout! Kids who didn’t have siblings came to see the show. The audience showed support and encouragement for the acts. Thank you to Joy Smith and Robyn Rauh for all your hard work!

Ways and Means Committee-Quarterly meeting took place and several teachers had requests. The Kindergarten teachers asked for monies to pay for subscription for Reading A to Z, which will allow teachers to print a variety of little books for the students to read. Mr. Short asked for $400 to purchase new white shirts for band members and chorus. Debi Proctor asked for $210 to purchase puzzles and puppets for Spanish speaking students. Carina Stallcup asked for $146 to purchase books for her class library. The board unanimously approved these requests.

Teacher’s Lounge-Michelle Bevard reported on the progress of renovating the teacher’s lounge. The new chairs arrived! They are green and are very comfortable. The table bases are made and ready. It is all slowly coming together.

Spring Fling-This year’s Spring Fling will be a Raffle Roundup on Friday, March 27th at Georis Tasting Room. There will be 7 gift baskets in which parents and staff can buy raffle tickets for.  Tickets are $10 each, buy 5 and get 1 free. You can choose which raffle item you want.  Committee meeting immediately following PTO meeting. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact Robyn Rauh.

Reading Week- Reading Week was Feb. 23-27th. During lunch-recess students could gather in different areas on campus to read. On Thursday, Reading Night took place. Approximately 80 kids showed up. This year the Sheriff brought K9 and the kids loved playing with the dog. This year Highway Patrol brought their SUV and turned on the lights and opened the doors for everyone to look inside. No Screens for Ice Cream Party is this Friday during lunch. Thank you to Stephanie Miller for organizing this week!

Teacher’s Brunch-Next Wednesday is the Teacher Appreciation Lunch. Michelle Bevard sent out a sign up through Sign Up Genius. Please make sure all food is labeled with child’s name and teacher and in the kitchen by 10am. The PTO will be buying lunch for the teachers next Monday 

New Business-The Volunteer Appreciation Assembly is scheduled for April 17th.

Carmel Middle School PTO meeting is first Wednesday afternoon of each month.
