Welcome to the Computer STEAM Lab
Please feel free to contact me or stop by if you have any questions about our technology program!!
Exciting changes this year! We are re-modeling the lab so that it is a flexible workspace for students, and along with our technology curriculum, we will be adding a STEAM project for each grade level. STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) is an integrated approach to projects that emphasizes concepts of designing and engineering concepts. In other words, students are given a problem, brainstorm, try it out and then reflect on their success or analyze and try again. Wonderful and fun learning process!
But here are the basics! Grades K-2 visit the computer lab once each week, and grades 3-5 have computer instruction in their classroom using their chrome books. Students work on grade level activities, which are designed to develop their computer, keyboarding and research skills. Tech projects are tied closely to classroom curriculum so that these projects reinforce classroom learning. The goals are to use technology as a tool for classroom learning, and to help students learn to use technology effectively and responsibly.
Students develop technology skills using basic programs - word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets. We also use paint programs in the lower grades, and, in the upper grades, we do a variety of multi-media projects. In upper grades, we also have fun learning basic computer coding.
Check out the student links page on our website to see the variety of programs that we use.
We also provide grade level appropriate instruction on digital citizenship - internet safety, good digital etiquette, using the internet for research. Upper grades use Google Docs and Moodle - please click on the link below for more information on these programs
Again, please don't hesitate to email, call or stop by if you have any questions about the technology that your student is using!!
