Carmel Unified School District (CUSD) spans Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, and Big Sur. CUSD has three elementary schools (Carmel River in Carmel, Tularcitos in Carmel Valley, and Captain Cooper in Big Sur), one middle school (Carmel Middle), and one high school (Carmel High). Additionally, CUSD has a continuation high school (Carmel Valley High), an adult school, and various child development programs. To find out more about the schools, go to our Accountability page
, or use the drop down menu in the top, left-hand corner of this website.
To enroll your K-12-aged child in a CUSD school, you must live in the district (or secure an interdistrict transfer) and complete registration.
Before you begin enrollment, is your house in Carmel Unified School District boundaries?
If you are unsure, there are several ways to check whether a home is within the CUSD boundaries:
- Check the property tax bill to see whether "Carmel Unified Series" is listed.
- Contact the Student Services Department with a specific address.
- Download and install the free Google Earth viewer. Open the Google Earth viewer first, and then open this Google Earth file prepared by the Monterey County tax assessor. The purple overlay on the map covers the houses that are in CUSD boundaries.
Step One: Residency
Complete a CUSD Residency Affidavit
and sign in person
. You will submit three documents to prove your residence. Generally, parents provide two utility bills and a copy of the mortgage statement or lease agreement (for more details, see the Residency Affidavit). Residency documents should be submitted at the school your child will attend. If you have more than one child, you may list all children on the same form.
Step Two: Documentation
Provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport.
For Kindergarteners/1st graders starting school for the first time:
For Carmel Middle School students:
Complete an Elective worksheet.
Step Three: Online Registration (Infosnap)
Submit online registration. Upon receipt of your documents, we will enter your child’s information into the student database. Parents will generally receive an email with the link to Infosnap within 1-2 working days. You may need to check your spam filter.
Step Four: Follow-Up
Notify the school registrar once you have completed Infosnap. For students entering grades 9 or above, you and your student must schedule an appointment with their counselor.
If you have any questions, or need to schedule an appointment with a counselor, please contact the registrar:
