Tk/K Toileting Guidance
The Carmel Unified School District (CUSD) recognizes the importance of providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all children, including those enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten (K). In accordance with state requirements, all school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools must offer TK and K classes for all age-eligible children to attend, regardless of their toilet training status. This means that no child will be excluded from TK and/or K due to toileting needs.
CUSD is committed to supporting families as children develop independence in self-care skills. For students who are not yet fully-toilet trained, CUSD school site staff will work closely with families to address each child’s individual needs. Local educational agencies, including our district, may establish procedures to ensure that students are able to attend and participate successfully in TK and Kindergarten, while also maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment.
We ask that families keep us informed of their child’s toileting abilities so that we can provide the necessary support and maintain clear communication between home and school. If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), any accommodation or support related to toileting will be discussed and documented as part of the IEP meeting process. This ensures that appropriate supports are in place to meet your child’s unique needs.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate experience for all TK/K students. If you have questions about our toileting guidance or need support, please contact your child’s teacher, administrator, or the school office staff.
