Substitutes
CUSD uses Red Rover, which is a web-based, automated substitute teacher service. Red Rover allows you to accept assignments via web, app or text.
To be a certificated substitute you must possess a valid California Teaching Credential or qualify for a Substitute Teaching Permit (see below for requirements).
Requirements for the Emergency 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit:
- Possession of a Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited university
- Passage of the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
- Completed application form for a permit that can be obtained Here or at the MCOE. (Applicable document and fingerprint fees will apply)

Certificated Substitutes
- 1st thru 5th Consecutive Day $225.00/ Day Eff: 3/14/24
- 6th thru 30th *Consecutive Day $225.00/Day Eff: 7/1/22
- Long Term after 30th *consecutive day or a "Preferred" Daily Sub $276.00/ Day Eff: 7/1/23 (30 Day Sub Permit)
- Long Term after 30th *consecutive day or a " Preferred "Daily Sub $347.34/ Day Eff: 7/1/23 (preliminary or clear credential)
Classified Substitutes
All classified substitutes are paid the Step 1 Hourly rate for the positions they are filling. The CSEA salary schedule can be found HERE
- Childcare Program Assistant Range 6
- Health Service Technician Range 15
- Library Media Specialist Range 18
- Nutrition Assistant I Range 4
- Paraeducator Range 9
- SPED- Paraeducator Range 14
Substitutes are paid on the last working day of the Month. Dates run from the 10th of the previous month to the 9th of the current month. (i.e., September 10th - October 9th and paid on October 31st)
