• About the Department
    The Communications and Community Relations Department communicates the mission, vision and values of the Carmel Unified School District and engages the community in celebration and support of students, staff and the community. The Department's goal is to increase awareness, visibility, and support for Carmel Unified schools and programs and plays a central role in engaging all stakeholders in two-way communication. Communications and Community Relations works with the Superintendent, Carmel Unified staff, the Board of Education, students, families and our community partners to actively engage students, parents, teachers, and members of the community.
    Communications and Community Relations is responsible for the majority of the District's internal and external communications, is the liaison between the school district and the news media, and connects with our community partners. We oversee communication for our school district through strategic communication planning, community relations, partnerships, marketing, branding, and advising our district leadership. Schools are supported through consulting on a variety of issues, including marketing, outreach, and crisis response. The office is responsible for Carmel Unified's district-wide internal and external publications, videography, community relations, public records requests, media relations, district website, website accessibility, and social media, to name a few.

    About the Chief Communications Officer
    Jessica Hull serves as the Chief Communications Officer for Carmel Unified. She brings seventeen years’ experience in school communications, including social media, crisis management, community engagement, and media and public relations.

    She believes well-informed students, families and citizens are the greatest assets to a school system and focuses all communications to create dynamic, two-way conversations within communities. Before joining CUSD, Mrs. Hull worked as the Communications and Public Relations Officer for the Monterey County Office of Education from 2015-2021, Communications Director for the Poway Unified School District from 2013-2015 and Communications Specialist for the Tracy Unified School District from 2005-2013.

    Mrs. Hull is currently serving as President of the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) and is an active member of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). For the 2020-21 school year, Jessica was recognized by NSPRA as the Front-Runner of the Southwest Region. NSPRA Front-Runners are members identified by the NSPRA Executive Board as emerging leaders who are doing outstanding work for their schools, their chapters and for NSPRA. This national distinction is only awarded to four association members each year, representing the seven NSPRA regions on a rotating basis.
    Jessica holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Emphasis in Print Journalism, from University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, and a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
