• Egg Osmosis Experiment

    Supplies needed:

    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup vinegar
    • jar/cup
    • water
    • Karo syrup (for stage 3)

    STAGE 1

    1. Put a RAW egg in cup/jar
    2. Cover it with vinegar (till it is fully covered)--cap it
    3. Hypothesize what you think will happen to the egg while sitting in vinegar
    4. Let the egg sit for 3-4 days
    5. After egg sits, wash it with fresh water, gently massage it underwater
    6. Now explore the egg and write down your observations in your science notebook
    7. Put in fridge until we have science office hours again and we move to STAGE 2

    STAGE 2

    1. Put your egg in jar/cup and fill to top with water
    2. Let sit and observe each day for 2-3 days; record observations in a notebook
    3. Take out of water…. observe with all your senses…. move on to STAGE 3

    STAGE 3

    1. Put your egg in your jar/cup
    2. Cover the egg with Karo syrup; cover the jar
    3. Let sit and observe each day for 2-3 days; record observations in a notebook
    4. Throw your egg away LOL

Write up what changes you saw happen to your egg over the 3 STAGES of this experiment. Look up the word OSMOSIS and write down its definition. Try to then put osmosis into your own words. Have fun!!!
