• Dear First Grade Families,

We hope you are all staying well during this time.

On Tuesday parents will be able to pick up a bag full of school activities that can be easily done at home.  Our intent is to provide materials and online resources to our students so that they can keep up on their skills without needing instruction of new material. All students will be able to access ClassLink on the school website. We are providing a paper copy of directions on how to login in case you need it.

It is very important that you collect the work that your child has completed to be returned to school upon reopening.  We need evidence to show that students were still learning while at home to avoid having to make up the time in the future.  Please log your child's reading in their journals on the last back page or on their reading log if you have it at home.

Please continue to have your child read to you out loud every day for at least 15 minutes. Your child’s classroom Web page will include a link to titles of books at your child’s level, as well as links to the public library. Also, please take advantage of Storyline Online (on ClassLink).

In your child’s bag we are providing:

This week's homework packet. This week we are on week 23 on Spelling City. Please continue each week with spelling practice online and using paper and pencil.

Student handwriting practice books:  please complete two pages a day 3 days a week.

Student journals & student dictionaries: please complete three journal stories a week. A complete story includes an introduction; at least three details; and a conclusion sentence. Some possible prompts are: Weekend News; Family fun; What are you reading? - write a mini book report; a how to story; interview a family member- ask for facts about them; and anything you know a lot about.

Math Practice: Please complete 30 minutes of ST Math a day (20 minutes of the "cone" levels and 10 minutes of facts fluency practice- look for the clock).  STMath (the kids also call it GigiMath) can be found on Classlink.

Also included is a paper copy of Fun Math card game instructions to play as often as possible!

Student issues of Social Studies lessons: to be completed one a week

Scholastic News/ Science Spin magazines: to be completed one a week; Online content that matches each issue is available on your child's teacher's webpage.

Also click on the links for Music, Science, Spanish and PE, available on Classlink and their webpages.

Our hope is that by providing these activities, students will stay engaged and keep up their skills as schools are closed for health and safety issues.

    Sincerely,

    The First Grade Teachers
