DIBELS is an acronym for dynamic indicators of basic early literacy skills. It is developed at the University of Oregon and used throughout the country. Tularcitos uses the DIBELS Next version. This newest version includes a separate comprehension assessment.
CUSD uses the DIBELS assessment for all students kindergarten through second grade. Third through fifth grade students are assessed if the student is scoring in the partial or minimal range on California common core standards. Students are assessed three times a year. Students indicating the need for additional support in a skill area are included in our RtI (Response to Intervention) program and monitored more frequently using the DIBELS progress monitoring assessment.
