Welcome to our classroom....

Hello! I am very excited to be teaching 3rd grade again this year at Carmel River School. I hope you are looking forward to this year as much as I am.

Thank you for reading the classroom website. I will be posting lots of important and fun messages here for you throughout the year.

A little about me....

I really enjoy teaching at River School!  This will be my ninth year of third graders at Carmel River School.  Previously, I have taught fifteen years of both third and fourth grades, most of that time in a math/science magnet program. I received my B.A. in elementary education and special education at Augustana College in the Midwest. I am married and have four children and three grandchildren. My oldest, Jenna, is married and lives in Livermore, CA. My second oldest daughter, Ashley, lives in Miami, and my third daughter, Katelyn, lives and works in Dallas. My youngest, John,  attends the University of Colorado, Boulder, and will be a sophomore this year. Last, but not least, is our three year old golden retriever, named Bo.

Music is a passion of mine, and I enjoy all kinds.  I play the violin, and have played it since I was seven years old.  I am part of a string quartet which plays at different places on the Monterey Peninsula.  I also play in a local chamber orchestra.  I like to use music in our classroom as much as possible (during quiet reading time, learning our multiplication facts, or just getting up and moving with a quick "dance party" to help us focus better after we have been sitting for a while).  We will probably find a song we like as a class and enter ourselves in the River School Talent Show at the end of the year.  I am really looking forward to finding out what each of your passions might be (music, sports, art, reading, math, a special pet, etc.).  We will have fun this year getting to know each other better and learning all the wonderful things there are to learn in third grade!
