Week of 9/17
Sorry for updating this page a bit late- missing three days of school last week due to science adoption meetings cause a bit of a backup...
-This week we are focusing on using our binder daily, and remembering to check it at home daily.
-Please help your child by checking the agenda and binder every day after school- any papers that need your signature should be returned the next day, or as soon as possible.
-We also need to read a minimum of 20 minutes each day- each child has a "good fit book" to read.
-Lastly, students are asked to practice their math facts daily.
-Online tasks inculde typing practice,
Reflex Math (use: email@example.com as the teacher sign-in),
and Imagine Math online. Please work on at least one of these programs daily.
We are completing topic 2, where we explored patterns, including those related to multiplication. Our goal is to steer the math boat in a way that makes math more conceptual for students. It is, however, vital to be certain that each child knows addition, subtraction, and multiplication and division facts, OR knows how to create them when needed (teach your child how to write the 8s table, for instance).
Our next topic is going to begin on Friday, 9/20. Topic 3 encompasses place value and rounding, both of which are important math concepts.
Please continue to ask your child to review their daily math pages with you. An outstanding way to cement what they learned is to explain it to another person.
Your child knows to keep those papers until the topic test, as they contain information to help in clearing up any confusions or misconceptions. You will also see exactly what we are up to in math.
Math Test for topic 2: Wed. 9/18
We have completed our first class novel: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Each child has taken an Accelerated Reader test on this book, and we are focusing on reading "Good Fit" books daily, to improve reading stamina, and record reading activities in our data binders.
Students have embarked on the fourth grade writing journey and this week we will work on writing stamina.
