  • Aerobic Activities

    This course focuses on the foundation of activities and information designed to increase the individual fitness level. Activities include weight lifting, swimming, ultimate Frisbee, football, and running. Other aerobic activities may be offered.

    • Grades:9-12
    • Prerequisites: Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in the Freshman Core PE course.
  • Aquatics

    This intermediate level course is designed to focus on improving mechanics for the six major strokes: front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Fitness swimming and other aquatic exercises and activities will be offered. An introduction to life-guarding skills and water safety instruction will provide students a foundation of knowledge and attitudes for becoming future lifeguards and swim instructors. Successful Completion: : Meets five units per semester of the physical education graduation requirement.

  • Flag Football / Basketball

    This course will focus on the basic theory, rules, strategies, and skills involved with the games of flag football and basketball.

  • Freshman Core Physical Education

    Instruction in the basic fundamentals of a variety of team or individual sports and aquatics over a period of one year. Instruction in dance may also be included. Emphasis is on cooperation, coordination, getting places on time and in proper attire for the activity, and teamwork. The CHS swim requirement for graduation, and physical performance testing are included in this course. Units will vary from three, four, or six weeks in length. The Freshman Core must be taken the following year until

  • Golf

    This course will focus on the development of the skill and knowledge of the basic swing, equipment, rules, and etiquette of golf. Badminton or other individual or dual activities may be offered.

  • Health

    This course is one that deals with such matters as self-esteem, drugs, nutrition and exercise, physical health, and sex which may be useful, interesting and often controversial. The course also deals with such matters as stress management, suicide prevention, first aid, CPR, decision making, and analysis.

  • Interscholastic Sports

    Carmel High School offers a wide range of extracurricular, interscholastic sports. Each athlete must meet the district eligibility standards. No student may participate with a grade point average lower than 2.0 or who has more that one of the following: a grade of "F", Incomplete, or "No Grade". Students will earn three physical education or elective credits toward graduation if: an eligible athlete fully participates with the team for the entire season; an athlete who begins the season academically ineligible but regains eligibility will earn credits, providing he/she attends all practices and contributes to the team. Students will not earn credits if: an athlete becomes academically ineligible during the season; an athlete becomes behaviorally ineligible due to consequences of CHS discipline, tardy, or truancy policies. CHS students in the cheerleading organization have to meet the same grade requirements as athletes and will receive 7.5 credits for the months they are participating in the program during one school year.       Weight training techniques will be taught to help improve performance in all interscholastic sports. Special attention will be paid to athletes who want to improve their physical abilities inherent to their specific sport.Meets one semester or one year of the physical education requirement for graduation.
