Apple Pie offers a full day and/or part day preschool program.
It is located on the Captain Cooper Elementary School site. 
The preschool is open on school days from 8:30 - 4:00. 
Tuition assistance is available for families who qualify.

Katie Nash
Site Director and Master Teacher

Katie Nash, M.A. and Ph.D., holds both a site supervisor and Master Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. She earned more than 30 units in Early Childhood Education from Sonoma State University. Prior to teaching, Dr. Nash studied family life extensively and conducted international research on women's work and family roles and childcare services. She published academic articles in the field of family sociology. Katie currently lives in Big Sur with her husband, daughter, two cats, a guinea pig, and several fish. Katie believes in the value of play-based curriculum for young children and likes to remember Albert Einstein;s famous words, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Katie likes to share her love of dance, movement, storytelling and singing with young children.

 


Neil Baldwin
Teacher
Neil Baldwin, a native of England, has worked in the field of Early Childhood Education for more than 20 years. He earned 30 college units in Early Childhood Education from Sonoma State University. Neil specializes in gardening and outdoor nature education with young children.
 
 


Gin Velasquez
Teacher's Aide
Gin has worked at Apple Pie Preschool for more than 10 years, and at Captain Cooper for 17 years. She has 12 units in Early Childhood Education from Monterey Peninsula College. She raised three children of her own and has lived in Big Sur for more than 20 years. Gin enjoys doing crafts and artwork with the children at Apple Pie.
